AYO Pantau Gambut is a campaign microsite of pantaugambut.id, an initiative spearheaded by World Resources Institute (WRI) and in collaboration with more than 20 local NGOs, with focus to raise awareness of the importance of peatland restoration in Indonesia. For most people, peat is a foreign term, but it plays a critical role in global climate change. Each year, large swathes of Indonesia’s peat swamp forests are on fire. In 2015, the fires caused more than 500,000 people to suffer from acute respiratory illnesses. Some of them died.
This microsite was made to share personal accounts from residents who were affected by the forest and peatland fires in 2015, provide a more intimate and interactive understanding of peat, and how the public can help support the cause.
